Where is uluwatu

Are you going to Bali for its world-class luxury? If so, Uluwatu is probably the destination for you. Bali made its name as a budget friendly destination, but the recent explosion of tourism to the island has somewhat hiked prices up.

So Uluwatu or Canggu, which destination stands out in terms of affordability? Besides its tendency for luxury accommodation, there are also lots of Western-style restaurants in this area, with much higher prices than you can expect at your more traditional, Balinese joints.

Canggu, on the other hand, is slightly more affordable. Of course, this is all very dependent on where you stay, which restaurants you go to, and how much you spend on entertainment. But in either Uluwatu or Canggu, if you eat at local Balinese places, opts for villas instead of resorts and spend your days on the beach, you should keep things fairly cheap. Bali has a rich and varied culinary tradition which draws influence from many different parts of the world, including China, India, Malaysia and Australia.

The beaches and clifftops of Uluwatu are awash with great places to eat. Campur Campur, in the heart of Uluwatu, is an inexpensive spot for some seriously delicious local cuisine.

The Impossibles also avoids the issue of the tourist crowd, making this a pleasant beach to relax and surf. Nyang Nyang is a little less frequented than the other areas on this list. The twenty-minute downhill hike will provide you with golden sands and dazzling sea, as well as plenty of swells. Commonly known as the secret beach, it is secluded from the tourist crowds and is the perfect spot for surfing.

Thomas Beach has a decent swell and is also great for beginners and mixed ability surfers. A mix between a reef and a beach break makes it a great place to surf and also relax in the tree-provided shade on a sunny afternoon. They provide guests surf and stay, with board rentals, surfing lessons, and tours for most of the local beaches including Padang Padang, Bingin, and Uluwatu.

If you really want to travel in style, stay here and use it as your relaxing center point for all your surf spot travels. Roughly 15 mins drive away from most of the main beaches is Bali Tubes. Crowds are pretty good. All hail Outside Corner. This is unquestionably the most famous surf break in Uluwatu. The swell needs to hit at least six foot for Outside to get going. The wave is best when it peaks to , which brings the classic Outside Corner walls in, with a crumbly peel that never interferes with one of the purest straight wave faces in the world.

The Peak will last into some sectiony bits where you can let off and cruise a little, but be sure you know where to pull up because there are rocks at the end. Like, seriously fast. Racetracks can be steep and rolls straight into the shallow reef shelf, where jagged rocks are just waiting to be fed! There are all sorts of breaks to the south and north. The Padang Padang Right is not the one that puts it on the radar, but is a rare beginner wave in this corner of the Isle of the Gods. The Left is where the money shots are. High tide is best and the crowds can be unbareable. Bingin is a lovely left break that can get neat and hollow on 5 footers and up. The paddle out is from nearby Padang Padang. High tides are best on the push because they drag in more water to create A-frames over the reef that are doable on both rights and lefts.
